Hiphopdx – Chief Keef announced he was retired from the Rap game on Twitter Wednesday (March 2).
“I’m retired you didn’t know?” Sosa wrote in a tweet. “To many niggas sound jus like me or saying shit like almighty would.”
Well, I guess it’s like they say: when the going gets tough, the Keef get quitting (disclaimer: no one has ever said this). Between his existing legal problems, his dismissal from every label that he has been attached to, and his subpar sale things have not been easy for Keef in recent years. In fact, the highlight seems to have been when police showed up to attempt and arrest a hologram of him.

It seems lazy to blame this decision on too many rappers biting his style though. Like, you can’t compete with imitations of yourself? That’s like if Future just up and retired the second Desiigner dropped.

That’s why I have to give Keef a -5 for his retirement present. Sorry it’s not a gold watch, bro. Wish you the best, and we’ll always have “Don’t Like,”

Here’s lookin at you, Keef.

This Friday Chief Keef’s plans suffered another setback when the release party for Bang 3 Pt 2 was shut down by police. Originally scheduled to take place in the Henry Fonda Theater, the event was moved to a nearby parking lot after venue owners pulled out of the agreement.

As if this wasn’t enough, the parking lot show was shut down by police midway through a performance of “Don’t Like” by Keef’s hologram, allegedly due to a lack of permit.

A few things strike me about this story. First of all, the last time Keef did a hologram performance (also shut down by police) it was because he had a warrant out for his arrest in the state of Indiana, where the show was being held. This time Keef was reportedly in the venue, chilling with Greek billionaire Alki David, while the hologram performed. I get that holograms are cool, and I would pay a shitload of money for a hologram of Keef saying “Help me, Obi Wan. You’re my only hope”, but it kinda ruins the point of a live performance. The Coachella Tupac-hologram was dope, but I wouldn’t pay to see it on tour. And if the artist is actually within walking distance of the stage while the hologram is performing? That just makes no sense.

The part I do like about this though is that authorities apparently think Keef is to dangerous to be allowed to perform. In addition to this one, he has had shows in Chicago and New York recently cancelled. I know Keef has a pretty long rap sheet, but this obsession with shutting him down is verging on bizarre. I’m giving him +5 since he is apparently (for some reason) hip hop’s most wanted, but I’ll up that when Wikileaks reports on a secret government conspiracy to take down Keef and GBE.

And while you’re here youmight as well check out Bang 3 Pt 2 on iTunes

This week police in Illinois took to the stage at a benefit concert for the late Melvin Carr in Indiana in order to arrest the Chief Keef mid-show. They were dismayed to find that they were unable to complete their arrest, as the performance was actually a hologram of Keef, beamed in from LA, that vanished as soon as police arrived because apparently we are living in the fucking future holy fucking shit.

Keef has several outstanding warrants in the state for yada yada yada, can we talk about the fucking hologram??

This is seriously like the intro to a sci-fi action movie. Brutal police forces in a harsh dystopian wasteland (sorry, Indiana) storm the stage to capture the an elusive freedom fighter only to have him vanish in flash of light. Except it actually happened wtf.

So my first question would have to be: who gave Chief Keef a hologram machine? Do you know how hard it is to get your hands on something like that? The president is going to hear about this and be like “Michelle, why don’t we have a hologram machine? Do you think Keef would let me borrow his?”

The answer to my question, it turns out, is Alki David, the CEO of Hologram USA: a company that used up all of their imagination building a hologram machine and had none left over to think up a clever company name. Overall, a smart move by David, making headlines in order to fill the void left by the crash of Digital Domain Media (creators of the Tupac hologram) who were rumored to be in talks to take the act on tour with the likeness of various other deceased artists.

I’m giving Keef +5 for finding a way to appear at this benefit concert despite the fact that he is is apparently unable to set foot in the state without drawing a police presence. Until Young Thug escapes from a SWAT team using a jetpack, Keef is the closest thing to Star Wars in the rap game.

I am also willing to Alki David as large a street credit boost as he wants if I can use this machine, for just one day, to avoid having to actually attend my next family reunion. Ball’s in your court, David.

War in the Middle East. Ebola outbreak in Africa. Another Transformers movie. No question, it’s been a difficult year for planet Earth. But as we approach the holiday season there is reason to be hopeful. Reason to believe that next year might be better. Migos and Chief Keef have set aside their differences!

Yes, Atlanta’s breakout group of 2014 have apparently settled their dispute with the newly independent leader of Chicago’s GBE crew and marked the occasion with the above photo which was posted on various twitter accounts. Maybe if Israeli and Palestinian leadership posted a selfie with every treaty they signed some of them would last longer than a few months. We all could learn a thing or two from Migos and GBE. That is why I intend to nominate Keef for the UN’s secretary general position.

Brings a tear to my eye…

The beef began, we will all surely tell our grandchildren in years to come, with an altercation between Migos and GBE member Capo. Both sides then took to twitter, firing insults and threats as America collectively held its breath.

Tension reached its highest point in mid November, when a fight in DC ended with Migos member Quavo’s signature QC chain being taken. The chain resurfaced shortly, on Keef’s Instagram account.

The period following was tense but on December 8th the photo above surfaced after the two camps met up in LA, with mediation from OG KK. And what’s that Quavos is wearing around his neck front and center in the photo? Looks like an early Christmas present from GBE!

I for one am happy to see this come to an end and hope to see some collabs between the two in the near future. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Merry Christmas, beef is over!

Jesus Christ, we’re gonna need a separate site soon just for Migos news. According to reports, the Atlanta trio was involved in another brawl on Friday at a DC club following a show. Unlike previous such encounters this one did not go so well for Migos, with member Quavos allegedly being beaten and getting his chain took. Accounts are hazy at the moment, so I guess we will never know what criminal mastermind was behind this daring heist.

Oh no, wait. It was Keef.

Not long after the incident, the above post, showing the stolen chain, appeared on the Chicago MC’s Instagram. It was only up for a short time, but long enough for screenshots to be taken and the story to spread.

Hardly a week ago Migos were involved in an altercation with Capo of Chief Keef’s Glory Boyz Entertainment in GBE’s hometown of Chicago. This resulted in a lengthy back and forth on twitter that included threats from GBE’s Fredo Santana.

First thing’s first, my heart goes out to those most hurt by this: Migos fans in the Chi. You guys probably aren’t gonna see them again for a while. Sorry.

Secondly, I’m curious to see how Migos handles this. There’s been no official word from the ATL group’s camp yet. Right now I can think of two ways they can approach this:

Acknowledge the incident and use it as a platform to begin an insightful discussion about violence in hip hop culture.

Deny the incident ever happened. Deny the chain in question ever existed. Claim that all existing pictures of Quavos wearing the chain are photoshopped.

But seriously, Keef and co proved that Migos made a big mistake by messing with GBE in their hometown. While I’d like to issue a plea to both camps to cool this down before it goes too far, I also gotta give Keef +100. He proved he’s living the life he always claimed, and his crew proved that they were more than just talk.

Rumors have been making the rounds recently about Keef being dropped from Interscope Records and it looks like we finally have confirmation from Sosa himself in the form of an iPhone convo posted to his twitter.

First of all I notice from the screenshot that Keef’s Bluetooth is active, and I just want to point out that he can get a much longer battery life out of his phone if he shuts it off when he’s not using it. He should probably also check his “push notification” settings.

More importantly though: this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. His next album Bang 3 is out on December 25th and, like his boy Luck says, he’ll no longer be splitting royalties/merch/touring with a label. If he plays his cards right, Keef could easily come out on top here.

And think about it, Keef: how much faith did they really have in you in the first place? I mean, they wrote a clause into your contract allowing them to cancel your deal at will if your first album didn’t meet sales requirements. You don’t need that shit.

Keef isn’t letting this slow him down and is moving forward on all his projects. I give him +20 for taking it back to the streets, with the potential for that to increase if he proves that he can handle his business.
