In a recent cipher to promote the upcoming compilation Shady XV Eminem offended some people. Because it is apparently 1999 again.
Em raps that he would “punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance/’Til her head is banging on the railing”
Yeah, that’s not great. But it’s still relatively tame for Shady. I mean, I get that domestic violence is kind of a hot button issue at the moment but after all the times this man has said he was going to murder, torture, or disembowel someone this line really isn’t anything to get worked up about.
It seems like the media has a “Dory from Finding Nemo” kinda thing going on with regards to Eminem, where every time they look away for 30 seconds they forget all the terrible stuff he’s said in the past so every new line gets them just as horrified as when The Slim Shady LP came out.
I’m not moving Marshall’s credit either way on this. Nothing new is really going on here.
