There was a lot of talk about “bandwagoning” in the NBA offseason. The general feeling was that, with Lebron going back to Cleveland, Miami fans would be jumping ship faster than… well, faster than Miami fans leaving American Airlines Arena during the 2013 finals.
And while you will likely see a few more Cleveland jerseys than last year, there is at least one man The Heat can still count as a fan. Rick Ross.
During an interview with Funk Master Flex on Tuesday, Ross confirmed that he’s still pulling for his hometown of Miami. Taking it one further, The Boss declared that he’d be willing to bet $100k that The Heat make the playoffs, but Lebron’s Cavs do not.
Vegas disagrees, giving the Cavs a 5/2 chance of winning the finals, and the Miami Heat only 50/1. Let’s add to that the fact that Lebron hasn’t missed the playoffs since his sophomore season in 2005 and I don’t think Ross will have any trouble find someone willing to take that bet.
I gotta respect Ross for this though. He’s standing by his team and, by extension, his hometown. While I’d advise Mr. Rozay against putting up six digit wagers every time he wants to make a point, I will give him +10 for staying true to his roots and not changing colors this fall like some kind of a bearded oak tree.
