Few rappers share as close a bond as Lil Wayne and Birdman. Since a young Wayne signed to Birdman’s Cash Money Records at the tender age of nine the two have had almost a father son relationship. Yes these two are friends for life and there is nothing that could ever come betwe- oh wait, they’ve got beef.
So it looks like the longest friendship in hip-hop is in jeopardy. Yesterday Wayne posted a series of angry tweets, the most telling of which was perhaps “I want off this label and nothing to do with these people”
Wait, do you hear that sound somewhere in the distance? It almost sounds like Birdman sitting sadly, his head in his hands, listening to “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” on repeat. Or maybe I’m imagining things.
The divide between the two seems to be over the delays in the release of the Weezy’s highly anticipated album The Carter V. Whatever Cash Money’s reasoning for pushing back the street date, there is apparently one member of the label who takes exception to it.
Since details are unclear so far I’m not going issue a score change, but this whole thing is unfortunate. I’ve always been kind of jealous of Wayne and Baby’s relationship. I have, at times, referred to my own father as “the Birdman I never had” so I hope they patch things up soon.
