Kanye has always been outspoken, but he’s taken that to whole new levels since the release of Yeezus in Summer 2013. With regular on-stage rants targeting everything from the media, to consumerism, to his own sense of self worth, he’s taken “Kanye doing Kanye” to the limit. In the past 18 months Kanye has gone full Kanye.
So it doesn’t surprise me that Yeezy recently turned down a $4.5 million offer for a 3 week Las Vegas residency. If you’re wondering what that breaks down to, I’ll save you the time: it’s $148.80 a minute. Kanye could take a twenty-minute nap and wake up three grand richer. Every time he was on the toilet he would be laughing hysterically, because that shit was worth four digits.
But that’s not Kanye. If Yeezus taught us anything, it’s that Kanye doesn’t want to play by anybody else’s rules anymore. He’s just having fun preaching from his stage-mountain.
Showing up to work at the same place 3 days a week for 3 weeks is getting awfully close to an office job, and in an office job you have bosses. Kanye West doesn’t have a price tag, and for sticking by his principles in the face of overwhelming cash I’m awarding him +15 street cred.
Having said that, if Kanye’s residency slot is open, I have far less integrity. Get at me, Vegas.
